Rebuild of two 25 ton class D cranes

At our facility we were experiencing some costly bridge wheel issues in one of our bays. We had two cranes that were having to change out bridge wheels too frequently. We spent money several years ago to replace the end trucks on one of the cranes. This only gave us some time before those bridge wheels wore out also. We had a company come in to align the crane rails. This didn’t help at all. We then got Excel Industries involved. They came out and not only surveyed the rails once, but two times just to make sure the first survey was correct. They found several issues with our rails, but found more problems with both of our cranes and their end truck alignment. One crane needed new end trucks due to to much damage over the years. The other crane that we already had the end trucks replaced just needed aligned. Excel then explained to me that when the end trucks were replaced the first time that they should have taken the crane down and not simply just replace them where the crane sat int the bay, that it need to be realigned and just bolted back together. Well, Excel came up with a plan to align the rails and order new trucks for the one crane. Upon arrival, they took the crane down and transported it back to their shop where they would put the crane together ( with new end trucks), square it up, and put locating pins in so when they brought it back to our plant it would be put back together just as it was in there shop. After they did that the next step would be to take the other crane down, transport to their shop and square the 2nd crane up. Well within two weeks we had two cranes freshly painted back in our facility running up and down the rails without any “squealing or popping noises” like they used to. You can barely hear them when they are moving now. Excel came back a month later to make sure everything was still okay and it was. They even showed us pictures of how all the bridge wheels were running true to the rails. Our 30 year old cranes now look and run like new.
